The Archaeological Survey of India has increased its applicable monument entrance fee for its monuments spread all over India w.e.f. the new financial year -- April 01, 2016.
Entry to 116 key historical monuments under ASI across the country, including the Red Fort, Qutab Minar, Taj Mahal, Kumbhalgarh Fort & Chittorgarh Fort have become costlier. The government effected a three-fold hike in the entry fee for the monuments for domestic visitors and 100 per cent for foreign tourists. The hike in entry fee to see the Taj Mahal means that ticket prices have risen in real terms by 200 times for Indians and 5,000 times for foreigners since 1966, when the ASI had first imposed a levy to see the 17th century mausoleum. However, when inflation rates are taken into consideration, the ticket price don't seem quite as steep.
