From January 20-24, 2012 literature lovers from all over the world, including some very known names will be flocking to the Pink City to drink in the ambience at the five-day long extravaganza which will play host to over 200 speakers from across the globe. They will debate, discuss and read from their works at the Diggi Palace, Jaipur.
This event is one of the largest literary festivals in Asia that drew 7,000 patrons over five days in 2008, ballooned to 60,000 last year and organizers are expecting thousands more this year. And this time, you will see writers such as Michael Ondaatje, Fatima Bhutto, Ben Okri and David Remnick here. Oh yes, Salman Rushdie’s attendance is still a mystery! Perhaps, we can see Oprah Winfrey at the do.
The festival remains, as it started, open and free for everyone. But in an effort to streamline entry, for the first time organizers have asked people to register online before the festival this year, to enhance the safety. So don’t forget to carry your photo ID proof at the venue if you’ve not registered yet.
The Jaipur Literature Festival will also host four musical evenings for the music enthusiasts. The musical four nights will have the touch of Rajasthani, Pop, Sabri Bothers, Sufism, Band and Sahrang, with world wide artists performing in it.
