Ramadan/Ramzan is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating and drinking during daylight hours and is intended to teach Muslims about patience, spirituality, humility and submissiveness to God. Muslims fast for the sake of God and to offer more prayer than usual.

The Heritage Mosque in Jodhpur which is in the local vicinity does the mass communication through a siren system to communicate the beginning and ending of fasting period lasting fifty seconds each.
With the first sighting of the moon and the announcement of the beginning of Ramadan, people congratulate each other and visit the mosques for the Taraweeh Prayer. All physically able Muslims - men, women and teenagers - keep a fast on every day of Ramadan from sunrise to sunset, perform the "namaz" (prayer) for five times and give alms to the poor.
Muslims believe Ramadan to be an auspicious month for the revelations of God to humankind, being the month in which the first verses of the Qur'an were revealed to the Islamic prophet, Muhammad.
The last day of Ramadan or Eid al-Fitr , is the most important festival on the Islamic calendar, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, will be celebrated across India on August19, 2012 with a great fervor.
