The day September 27 is celebrated as the world tourism day across the globe. Since 1980, this day is been celebrated, this particular date was chosen in 1970 when the statues of UNWTO were adopted. The United Nations World Tourism Organization sees the adoption of these statutes as a landmark in global tourism.
The day is celebrated with a theme. Each year witnesses the day with a unique and distinguished theme. This year the World Tourism Day 2011 is being celebrated under the theme “Tourism – Linking Cultures.”
The sole purpose of this day is to Link cultures regardless of the political boundaries. Tourism Day raises awareness on the role of going to places of interest within the international community. It also highlights that how it affects cultural, political, social and economic values worldwide.
