ABHANERi FESTIVAL IN DAUSA, RAJASTHAN IS AN ANNUAL FESTIVAL ORGANIZED BY DAUSA DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION ALONG WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM, GOVERNMENT OF RAJASTHAN

A two-day Abhaneri’ festival will be held at the Abhaneri village in Dausa district from 21 to 22 September, 2017 to promote rural tourism in the area. The festival will witness artistes performing Shehnai Vaadan, puppet show, Behrupia, Raavanhatha, among others at Chand Baori and Harshat Mata temple on 21 and 22 September from 10 am to 5 pm. The Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan in collaboration with the Dausa District Administration organises the annual event. On 21 September, there will be various cultural performances like Mayur Dance, Langa singing, Kacchi Ghodi, Behrupia, Bhawai Dance while on 22 September evening there will be a Kavi Sammelan performance by Abdul Ayub Gauri at Chand Baori (step well).

‘Abhaneri festival’ is named after the village Abhaneri in the Dausa district which is around 90 km from Jaipur on the Agra road. This two-day festival has gained immense popularity amongst the tourists around the globe. This year, it will be held from 21 to 22 September, 2017 with various Rajasthani & local folk performances like Kachhi Ghori, Kalbeliya, Ghoomar, and Bhawai. Festival was initiated by Rajasthan Tourism in 2008, it is of great significance for Rajasthan. The village of Abhaneri was originally named Abha Nagri, meaning “city of brightness”. The place is popular for the Chand Baori-step well, one of the largest step wells built over a thousand years ago. Be a part of the celebrations at Abhaneri and dip into the rustic charm of traditional Rajasthani music.

Chand Baori is one of the largest step wells built over a thousand years ago in the Abhaneri village of Dausa, 95 kms from Jaipur The beautiful structure was built during the 8th and 9th centuries and has 3,500 narrow steps arranged in perfect symmetry, which descend 20m to the bottom of the well. Centuries ago, the stepwells were built in the arid zones of the state to provide water throughout the year.
