Ashwa poojan or the Worship of the Horse is a festival celebrated by the royal family of Mewar (Udaipur) on the last day of Navaratri. On this day, horses are worshiped by the current head of the royal family as it is believed horses symbolize loyalty, self-respect and power. The horses are honored and worshiped on this day and gratitude is also expressed to the noble breed of horses.
Continuing this old tradition, a grand Regal Festival will be celebrated at Manak Chowk, City Palace Complex, Udaipur, on October23, 2012 from 05.00 pm to 07.15 pm.
The highlight of this festival would be the mouthwatering Rajasthani cuisine that is on offer. The ninth and last day of the Navratris is even more important in Mewar because of the Ashwa Poojan as well as Shastra poojan or Worship.
