Celebrating the world's built cultural heritage.
World Heritage Day, celebrated on April 18, every year, is a reminder of the beautiful places or heritage sites in a country. The places or sites that come under the World Heritage sites are of special cultural or physical significance, as listed by UNESCO. Our country India is a beautiful nation. It is known for preserving its old customs and traditions and protecting and nurturing the ancient places like temples, building, city, lakes, mountains, monuments and many more.
It aims to raise public awareness about the diversity and vulnerability of the world’s built monuments and heritage sites and the efforts required to protect and conserve them. Whilst UNESCO is the organisation that lists World Heritage Sites, this day is not just about the listed sites, but concerns all cultural heritage places and landscapes of international, national and local significance. Each year has a different theme, and the theme for 2016, looking ahead to the Olympics in Brazil, is The Heritage of Sport.
When talking about heritage jewel, Rajasthan is the top notch contender of it. Various sites in Rajasthan make it into the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
