The wait is finally over for travelers who are looking for flying to international destinations, including Singapore, Bangkok and others from Jaipur. From Thursday i.e 15 September, 2016 bigger aircraft like Airbus-320 and Boeing-747 can take off and land from the extended runway at the Jaipur airport. After the completion of runway extension from 9,174 feet to 11,500 feet, the Director General Civil Aviation (DGCA) has commissioned the new runway.
From Thursday morning, the new runway would be operational. Various operators will now come to Jaipur to start a direct flight to international destinations. The runway extension and CAT-IIIB light work was already over and now Jaipur airport is geared up for the landing of bigger aircraft's. Earlier, the runway's length was 9,174 feet which was not sufficient for the landing of big aircraft like Boeing 747 and Airbus 320.
Though, Jaipur airport was given the international status in 2006 and was equipped with a new terminal building and traffic control, it failed to function fully as an international airport as the runway's length was not 11,500 feet, as required. Initially, the airlines flying to destinations, including Abu Dhabi and Dubai would be allowed to take the extended runway to replace their aircraft with the bigger aircraft and 02 October, 2016 on-wards Jaipur would be directly connected to Singapore. Scoot airlines has already got permission to fly from Singapore to Jaipur and Jaipur to Singapore from October 02, 2016. By the end of December, there is hope to have direct flights from Jaipur to other international destinations like Bangkok and Malaysia.
Countries which are likely to get connected to Jaipur after the completion of entire work are, Kuala Lumpur-Bangkok-Thailand sector and then there would also be increase in flights to the Gulf countries including Muscat and Oman. It will also bring more flights from UAE. At a much later stage, Jaipur would directly be connected with European countries as well.
