Urgent!
This is to inform you that virtually all the major highways connecting to Delhi have been blocked since Saturday morning after blockades by the ‘Akhil Bhaaratiya Jat Arakshan Samiti’ demanding reservations for the Jats. Commuters heading to Gurgaon, Faridabad, Rohtak and Sonipat have been stalled for hours now, as some roads have been dug up by the protesters. Traffic police officials say that they are coordinating with the police forces from Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan to ensure essential supply routes remain operational. Traffic police has advised to avoid roads leading to Haryana for the next few hours, due to the massive traffic jams that have ensued.
According to the traffic police, the highways including NH-1, NH-2 and GT Karnal Road have been completely choked due to the protests. Protesters have put up barricades along these routes to prevent vehicles from exiting or entering Delhi. As per an estimate, about 10 lakh vehicles including trucks have been stalled at the roads leading to Haryana, which also reach the other neighbouring states. Vehicles heading to Jaipur, Amritsar and Chandigarh have been waiting at the city roads since this morning. Commuters heading towards the IGI airport too were stalled due to the tailback at the Gurgaon outpost.
