Jodhpur Nagaur Fair is the second largest cattle and cultural fair in India. The Nagaur Fair of Jodhpur, Rajasthan is held every year during the month of Jan-Feb. This year’s dates are 17th to 20th February, 2013
It is popularly known as the Cattle fair of Nagaur. This is because the Nagaur Fair is mainly about trading of animals. Approximately 70,000 bullocks, camels and horses are traded every year in this fair. The animals are lavishly decorated. Other trading in the Nagaur Fair in Jodhpur consists of sheep to Marwari horses to spices. Some other attractions include the Mirchi bazaar (largest red-chilly market of India), wooden items, iron-crafts and camel leather accessories.
To make them attractive, the animals are adorned with various accessories in an extravagant manner. At the same time, the owners, themselves, are seen showing off their colorful turbans and long moustaches. Apart from the business of cattle trading, there are a number of other attractions at the fair. There are a lot of sports activities ranging from tug-of-war, camel races to bullock races to cock fights.
Nagaur fair is also famous for its jugglers, puppeteers, storytellers, etc. For further entertainment, there is folk music of Rajasthan echoing throughout the fair.
