Fairs in Rajasthan are mythological in nature relating to Gods and Goddesses. They are even celebrated to commemorate the brave deeds of medieval heroes. The Marwar Festival, held in memory of the heroes of Rajasthan is one such example.
Marwar Festival: It is a festival devoted to the music and dance of Marwar region. The festival was originally known as Maand Festival. Held for two days on full moon – sharad purnima, 10th October and 11th October2011. Folk artists bring to life the myths, legend and folklore of the area. The festival is celebrated in the Hindu month of Ashwin (Sept-Oct) inJodhpur, the former capital ofMarwarProvince. The festival has on display the music and dance of the Marwar region. The spirited folk dancers assemble here, perform with gusto and entertain the audience with Rajasthani folklore.
Jodhpur Marwar Festival brings to the forefront the folk music and folk dance of the Marwar region. Folk dancers carrying pots on their heads as well as the folk singers keep you enchanted with their performances. The days of yore, of battles and valiant heroes appear to be standing still in time. Infact, it seems as if one has gone back to the royal bygone era of the state and is reliving it. The camel tattoo show, camel polo, horse riding and horse polo are some of the other attractions at the Marwar Festival of Rajasthan.Various other competitions are also held during the festival.

The massive Meharangarh fort and the impressive Palaces which are symbol of might and valour of the Rajputs, makes Jodhpur an ideal location for the festival.
