The tiger reserves Ranthambore National Park and Sariska have been closed for three months from Sunday July01 to September30, 2012. This is the annual closure of the parks for the monsoon.
According to forest officials, it is this time that many animals and thousands of egrets, herons, storks, cormorants, darters, spoonbills and ibises breed and the entry of tourists might pose a problem for them. Therefore the parks are closed. However, in Sariska, religious tourists to temple at Pandupole will be allowed on Fridays and Saturdays.
The forest department is yet to arrive at a decision of whether or not to keep the Kailadevi Park adjoining the Ranthambore National Park also closed. Last year the department had kept Kailadevi open so as to accommodate last minutes tourists who would have booked a ticket for the park unaware of its closure.
