A Resplendent celebration of awe-inspiring Rajasthani art & culture.
When: February 20th-22nd
Where: Jaisalmer, Rajasthan
The Jaisalmer Desert Festival is an annual event organized each February at the beautiful Golden Desert City of Jaisalmer. The festival is celebrated amidst the beautiful dunes of the Thar Desert. Romantic, remote and unspoiled, the location comes to life during the three day extravaganza of the delights of the desert. Not only is this time of the year ideal to visit the outskirts of the Thar, but with the festivity and tints of the Jaisalmer Desert Festival, it almost becomes an essential. With camel rides, camel races, turban tying competitions, the longest mustache competition and the staple Rajasthani folk dances and music, the festival finds itself host to visitors from around the world.
Be a spectator of rare competitions like camel polo. Cheer for camel races. Gymnastic stunts on camel back and camel formation dancing are the crowning jewels of the festival. These competitions are followed by the Border Security Force Camel Tattoo. Tug-of-war, turban tying, and Mr. Desert competition are among other allures. The grand finale of the festival is the Rajasthani folk concert following an Air Force display, cricket match and parachuting. This festival ends on a full moon day with the Jaisalmer Fort and a display of fireworks in the background creating a fairy-tale ambiance. Desert safari and camping can be also enjoyed at the eve of the festival.
