Sariska had been longing to see Tiger cubs for long. Finally the prayers and hard work of Sariska officials and wildlife lovers got rewarded by the almighty.
The tigress ST-2 has been spotted with her cub at Kalighati and Slopka areas of the sanctuary in a camera trap. More cubs are expected to be sighted in the upcoming days, but the recently sighted cub confirmed the news of ST-2′s delivery. Wild life officials are trying to secure some more photographs of the animal.
The Sariska reserve now has five adult tigers, of which three are females and two males. With a cub spotted now, the total number is now six.
In 2004-05, the forest department and the Rajasthan government faced all-round criticism over the disappearance of tigers from Sariska. The state government then decided to relocate tigers from the Ranthambore National Park in Sawai Madhopur district to Sariska.
The Sariska reserve, originally a hunting preserve of the erstwhile princely state of Alwar, was declared a wildlife reserve in 1955. It got the status of a National Park in 1979.
