World Oceans Day

World Oceans Day

Celebrated every year on 08 June (since 2002), "World Oceans Day" is a reminder of its major role in our life, that we need it more than it needs us and we need to start now to stop treating it as a garbage disposal.

DID YOU KNOW: Plastic pollution is causing tremendous harm to our marine resources:

  • 80% of all pollution in the ocean comes from people on land.
  • 8 million tonnes of plastic per year end up in the ocean, wreaking havoc on wildlife, fisheries and tourism.
  • Plastic pollution costs the lives of 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals per year.
  • Fish eat plastic, and we eat the fish.
  • Plastic causes $8 billion in damage to marine ecosystems each year.

A REMINDER: Oceans cover more than 70% of earth's surface and are the lungs of our planet, providing most of the oxygen we breathe.

Change starts with you

There are many things we can do as individuals to reduce our plastic consumption.

Use less plastic and recycle the plastic you must use!
