Aimed at boosting tourism, a two-day bird fair will be organised by Dungarpur district administration from January 12, showcasing the large diversity of migratory birds from Central Asian and European countries. A large variety of birds from Central Asia and Europe arrive at the lakes and forests of the region to escape the inhospitable weather of their native lands from October to March every year. The visitors will be able to see vast numbers of local and migratory birds in the annual fair and will be able to see the rich habitat around Dungerpur and adjoining areas.
The bird fair will be organised at the edge of Lake Gapsagar of Shivpura village of the district. The first day of the event will be fully dedicated to bird watchers and more than 800 students of both Government and private schools will participate in bird watching activity organised by the forest department under the supervision of experts. A quiz contest based on birds, a drawing competition for students and an on the spot photography competition for photography enthusiast will also be a part of first day event.
Besides that department will also organize a huge photography exhibition showcasing the photographs and details of some rare species of birds and butterflies. The event will host heritage for the visitors to make them familiar with 800 year old rich heritage and culture of Dungarpur district. On the second day of the event the visitors will be taken to various water bodies of the area including Ransagar and Solai for bird watching. Later in the afternoon event will conclude with a workshop in which the visitors will share their experiences with each other.
