Chandrabhaga Fair is held every year in Jhalarapatan, 6 kms from Jhalawar, that is located in the southeastern region of Rajasthan — a heritage town that has retained its old world charm. The Chandrabhaga Fair takes place around the full moon in the month of ‘Kartik’, according to the lunar calendar. The crops are in, so the November fairs are a great focus for local farming communities who can take time off and away from the fields. Farmers and livestock keepers come to trade camels, cattle, sheep and goats, buy farming and household supplies, and enjoy the fair. Pilgrimage is a key element, with religious dips in rivers and rituals at river temples on the auspicious full moon night at the river Chandrabhaga, that flows along side this sleepy little town and thousands of devotees take a holy dip in this river to attain salvation. The cattle fair attracts thousands of pilgrims, thus merging religion with commerce.

Chandrabhaga, is the less visited Hadoti region, that hosts one of Rajasthan’s greatest trading fairs. The Chandrabhaga Fair at Jhalarapatan is equivalent of the Pushkar Fair and is held around the same time every year. While at the Chandrabhaga fair one can also visit the ancient cities and age old temples around this area that includes the UNESCO World Heritage-listed river island fort of Gagron and the Buddhist rock-cut temples.
