Chhath is one of the most anticipated festivals in India and is celebrated widely across the country. It involves worshipping and thanking the Hindu God of Sun for an extended period of four days. A substantial number of devotees do fasting during the festival which is held in the months of October-November. This year Chhath Puja took place from 27th to 30th October 2014.
The festival is not just confined to the land of India but also celebrated in other parts of the world including Mauritius, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Jamaica.
During the festival, the devotees usually take a dip in the holy waters of Ganges and worship the sun God after which they proceed to eat food. The cuisine for the festival is typical too with the likes of Chana dal (chickpea- lentils), Kheer (Porridge) and Chapatis.
It is a serene sight at the banks of Ganges while the festival unfolds among the devotees.
