The sites of the Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur and the Ahhichatragarh Fort in Nagaur open their doors to an extraordinary sacred and historical musical journey on February 17-19, 2017. For the 10th year in a row, the Mehrangarh Museum Trust presents to music aficionados of India the World Sacred Spirit Festival.
The World Sacred Spirit Festival in Rajasthan brings together artists from across the world in a stunning royal setting. The 2017 edition of the festival will once again be held at the breathtaking Ahhichatragarh Fort in Nagaur (13-15 February) before moving to the Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur (17th & 18th February). While the festival at Nagaur is more exclusive and accessible only to resident guests, the 2 night event at Mehrangarh is open to a larger audience. Known to present the most beautiful of sacred traditions from the Orient, the East and Africa, WSSF will take a step further in enchanting its guests with an impressive line-up of artists in a stunning royal setting.
“The festival started as a celebration to mark the UNESCO World Heritage Award for conservation at the Ahhichatragarh Fort of Nagaur. It is rewarding and satisfying that this will be 10th edition of the festival. The festival which aims solely at conservation and continuation of Sufi/Sacred traditions of India and the World has been a successful and "soulful" experience for national and international audiences. The festival is a pioneering effort in Cultural Conservation and Music Tourism in India. The festival has been carefully curated by my daughter Princess Shivranjani Rajye, our festival Director Alain Weber and Alexandra De Cadaval and Mehrangarh Museum Trust Director Kr Karni Singh Jasol for a decade now. The most satisfying experience is that the festival has inspired many new and diverse music festivals across India; it has manifested itself as a guiding light and thereby enabling larger cultural conservation of our dying sacred arts and music traditions.”- His Highness Maharaja Gaj Singh II of Marwar-Jodhpur.
Lit by the sparkling incandescence of a thousand candles, magnificent, inherited and spiritual arts will carry you to the very origin of a tradition linked to those pilgrims of the past, travelers of the spirit, who brought to civilisation a sense of inspiration and meaning. This year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the festival, it will commence at the Toorji Step Well Square at the Old City of Jodhpur with sound and light scenography at this exceptional venue combining different artists from the festival.
