The 11th edition of JAS-17 was inaugurated on Friday at Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre (JECC). The central theme of the four-day expo is "Kundan Meena" which has become the identity of brand Jaipur across the world. Sanjay Kala, convener, JAS-17, said, "Sawai Jai Singh, the founder of Jaipur, had not only planned the architecture of the city, but also invited and housed talented craftsmen from all the other 'riyasats' of the country. The popular 'Johari Bazaar' of Jaipur was designated to be the hub of gemstone and jewellery trade and manufacturing in the city." The craftsmen, traders and manufacturers also responded to the warmth of the then king of Jaipur and produced some of the finest creations of gemstones, thus, putting Jaipur on the international map of gemstone and jewellery trade.
Started in 2007 with just 177 participants, JAS has successfully established itself as a premier platform of gemstone and jewellery trade. JAS-17, with 500 booths displaying gold, silver, 'kundan-meena', precious and semi-precious stones, it saw over 30,000 visitors, of which one-third were trade visitors and buyers. The on-going show is hosting 175 booths of gemstones, 275 of jewellery, 20 of rough stones and 30 booths of tools, machinery, packaging material and other allied products of the gemstone and jewellery industry. JAS-17 has also used the sculpture art in highlighting the craft of kundan-meena jewellery on the grey sculptures.
Buyers, designers, artisans and brokers from USA, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, Gemany, Dubai, China, and various other countries have registered for the show. Apart from that, visitors from various cities of India including Ahmedabad, Junagarh, Vadodara, Surat, Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur, Delhi, Chandigarh, Ratlam, Indore, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Lucknow, Kanpur participated in the four-day event while today being the last day.
